Why do people waste so much time at the office?

DecisionsTime spent in the office
Every single day, you do the same things over and over, whether you realize it or not. We are all individuals of habit, one way or another. But have you ever really thought about how much time you spend in the office?
The average British worker spends 36 days a year answering work emails. London workers in particular receive close to 9,000 emails each year. As a result, work spills over into private time. One recent survey revealed that 80% of employers consider it perfectly acceptable to contact their employees outside business hours.
All of this work comes at cost. Job-related illness, for example, is a growing problem in the UK and elsewhere, made worse by stress and more of us being overwhelmed by the “to do” list.

Time wasted in the office
The workplace is where people go to work. But much of the day is increasingly spent doing less productive activities. Your employees are at work. Sure. But there’s a better than 50 percent chance that they aren’t getting real work done.
The average person wastes five days’ worth of time each year chatting to colleagues, four days making cups of tea and coffee, another four checking personal emails and three days each on internet shopping, making personal phone calls, checking social media, running errands and smoking. That’s a total of 28 workdays not spent working!

Why Do People Waste Time?
People waste time for many different reasons. A recent survey shows that young adults aged 18- 25 waste the most time in the office. Many people believe short breaks actually increase productivity while others waste time because they are bored, don’t enjoy their job or feel like they aren’t getting paid enough. In addition poorly trained staff is a major factor in why the work day is spent wasted. The success of your business depends on how well your employees perform and how your customers relate to them. Lack of employee training results in trouble for any company; an employee who lacks proper training is unmotivated because they lack the knowledge needed to perform their job properly. This results in low productivity and inaccurate work, which will badly impact the company. If office workers were adequately trained and qualified they would be able to carry out their work quickly and more efficiently.
